When I asked my son to describe the perfect sandwich, he said it should be simple but flavorful. Everyone focuses on the middle ingredients, however the most important component of a sandwich is the bread. If the bread is to crusty, it is difficult to eat. It the ingredients are to wet, it can make the wrong bread choice soggy. It is with this in mind, I choose the bread based on the type of sandwich I am going to make. My go to sandwich bread is squaw or sliced sourdough. If I am making a sandwich with wet ingredients like an olive tapenade or pickled vegetables, I like to use a baguette. There is an amazing local bakery near me, C’est Bon that bakes the most amazing baguettes. Soft in the center with a nice crunch on the outside. When making a grilled cheese sandwich, sliced potato bread or brioche is the way to go. Remember a sandwich should not be overly complicated. Seriously, sliced turkey with avocado and sprouts is always a fan favorite. It is the little additions that can truly elevate your sandwich. Depending on my mood, I might add sliced jalapeño olives, pepperoncini and truffle mustard to the sandwich, or sometimes just the addition of a yummy honey mustard is all you need.

Each year, I take into account the teams that are playing in the game and create a menu based on the popular foods from their regions.
For Super Bowl 55, I chose to feature Kansas City BBQ. On the menu was a Grilled Lamb Patty topped with fresh avocado, chopped romaine lettuce, crisp onions and it was smothered with a sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. I served it with a cucumber and shallot slaw and seasoned steak fries served with even more Kansas City BBQ sauce.
